The company was founded in 1755 by Jean-Marc Vacheron when he opened his workshop in Geneva, Switzerland. It is said to be the oldest watch manufacturer in the world that has continued uninterruptedly since its founding. Along with Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet, it is considered one of the three major luxury watch manufacturers in the world. It is now owned by the Swiss Richemont Group.
